About Me; Providing Women’s Depression Therapy
Hello! I’m Jacqueline Getchius
Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor
When I was a kid, I wanted to be a doctor when I grew up. Some years later, as friends began to tell me how I had a knack of being a good listener, I realized that I enjoyed being able to be there for others in their time of need. Later, in college, I found that I had a great passion for learning about the inner workings of our minds and behavior. What I enjoy about providing women’s depression counseling in Minnesota, is that moment when a client reaches their goal and feels more peace in their day to day life.
Before beginning counseling, it can give you peace of mind to know your therapist’s background and credentials. You may be wondering what to look for in your therapist. Here, I will outline the education, experiences, and qualities that allow me to best serve you as a therapist. I have been in the mental health field for 17 years. During that time, I have consistently seen how women’s mental health can fluctuate across the lifespan. Therefore, it is an honor to help women like you find hope and healing through challenges that appear at each of life’s stages.
My qualifications include licensure is as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) through the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy. Additionally, it is a pleasure to be a member of Minnesota Women in Psychology.
Work Experience
- Outpatient individual and group therapy.
- Crisis counseling in Employee Assistance Programs.
- Managing patient care in Inpatient hospitals, Residential programs, and Partial hospital programs.
- Board Approved LPCC Supervisor in Minnesota.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a Minor in Women’s Studies from Luther College in Iowa.
- Master’s in Counseling and Psychological Services from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota.
Furthermore, in my counseling practice at Wellspring Women’s Counseling I integrate therapy techniques and theories from the following:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the most evidence-based treatment modality in the counseling field. As such, CBT involves changing both thinking and behavioral patterns. This can make a positive difference with mood concerns, including depression and anxiety.
Narrative Therapy
Narrative Therapy is a form of counseling that views people as separate from their problems. From there, work is done to empower clients to rewrite their own story. This story brings forth a future that reflects who they are, what they are capable of, and what their purpose is, separate from their problems.
Exposure Therapy
Exposure therapy is a type of cognitive-behavioral therapy that helps people overcome anxiety.
Cognitive Processing Therapy
Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is a specific type of cognitive behavioral therapy found to be effective for treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in people who have experienced violence, abuse, natural disasters, or other traumatic events.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an approach to psychotherapy that identifies and addresses multiple sub-personalities or families within each person’s mental system.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness is a practice involving focusing your awareness on the present moment. In addition, you work to calmly acknowledge and accept your feelings, thoughts, and body sensations.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is an action-oriented approach to psychotherapy that stems from traditional behavior therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. Clients learn to stop avoiding, denying, and struggling with their inner emotions and, instead, accept that these deeper feelings are appropriate responses to certain situations that should not prevent them from moving forward in their lives.
Motivational Interviewing
Motivational interviewing involves the therapist expressing empathy while they support clients in the belief that they can successfully change. Furthermore, the therapist helps to address resistance or ambivalence about changing.
Solution Focused Therapy
Solution Focused Therapy is a technique used in counseling that is primarily focused on finding solutions. This involves focusing on the future. Therefore, it is goal-directed. With your therapist, you explore underlying knowledge you already have about solutions to your concerns.
Home Life
The beautiful Twin Cities in Minnesota is where I proudly call my home. Outside of time at Wellspring Women’s Counseling, I love spending time with my husband, son, family, and friends. I enjoy passions of running, biking, art, and trying out new recipes on my kitchen. What’s more, I am actively involved in my church holding a council position on the Children’s Ministry committee.
Community
I very much believe in the power of giving back to our communities. Additionally, I have had the pleasure of providing presentations within the community on the Be SMART program, promoting gun safety protocols and suicide prevention. I am also on the Wellness Committee within my school district and participate in my son’s school Parent/Teacher Association. All around wellness is something I’m passionate about promoting.
In summary, as you research qualifications to look for in a therapist, I hope the above provided you a helpful outline of my experiences and training. Altogether, I am happy to use this experience to best serve my therapy clients.
